Don’t write your ideas down?

May 30, 2013

I often say “don’t write your ideas down, if they are good you will remember them” I don’t know if it’s good advice it’s just something I say a lot because ideas are continuously being thrown around. What I mean is: throughout the day an idea will come to me about a future project. Maybe it’s a character or story line but I never write it down no matter how good of an idea I think it is. It’s my personal filtering process that can often leave me feeling like I have just lost a genius idea, but I always try and tell myself “if it was really that great I will remember it.” If an idea makes it past my mental filtering process I feel pretty good about writing down an outline or something I can come back to and really put effort towards. I know this might sound scary but I am always looking for ways to make the best of my time, and this seems to work for me. You can try it, sometimes you will feel like you lost something but things you have on the page will be better.
